A Microsoft Power BI Case Study
SEGES, the Danish agricultural advisor and subsidiary of the Danish Agriculture & Food Council, needed to give farmers a unified, easy way to view financial and production data that had previously been scattered across mainframes and paper reports. To modernize reporting and make insights accessible on tablets and web, SEGES chose Azure for its back-end and Microsoft Power BI—specifically Power BI Embedded—to present consolidated dashboards and KPI tiles inside a secure farmer portal.
Using Power BI Embedded alongside Azure services (Azure Functions, Blob Storage, Data Factory, SQL Database and others), SEGES built a single semantic Power BI model with row-level security and XMLA-enabled access that delivers at-least-daily refreshed KPIs and interactive reports without requiring farmers to hold Power BI licenses. The Microsoft Power BI solution made reporting scalable and device-friendly, replaced infrequent (about four times a year) financial checks with daily, drillable insights, eliminated per-user license overhead, and enabled farmers to identify cost drivers, monitor cash flow, and purchase premium analytics for deeper decision support.
