Case Study: King’s College London achieves unified, real-time predictive analytics with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the King’s College London Case Study

King’s College London embraces predictive analytics with new pan-university data application

King’s College London faced fragmented data across six domains (students, estates, marketing, research, workforce, finance) that prevented real-time KPI tracking and evidence-based strategic planning. To break down these silos the university worked with Microsoft partner Adatis and adopted Microsoft Power BI alongside Azure services (Data Lake, Databricks, SQL Server) to create a unified, cloud-first analytics platform.

Adatis delivered a phased, Agile implementation that ingested source systems into Azure Data Lake, processed data with Azure Databricks and Data Lake Analytics, and consolidated it in a SQL Server data warehouse for interactive Power BI reports, dashboards and apps (notably the Higher Education Sector Benchmarking App). The Microsoft Power BI–driven solution democratized access to data, cut analysts’ time spent gathering data, and drove adoption across the university — over 2,000 staff have accessed Power BI reports, ~1,000 report views per day, >1,500 regular users, ~2,700 reports organization-wide and 2,500 views of the benchmarking app in three months — while upskilling 350 staff and supporting award-winning, evidence-based decision-making.
