A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Kern County Case Study

Kern County finds new possibilities and strengths in COVID-19 response with Microsoft 365, Power BI, and Teams

Kern County, one of California’s largest counties, struggled with fragmented IT systems, inconsistent data classification, and growing security and compliance demands across many departments. To address these challenges, the county turned to Microsoft Power BI’s broader Microsoft ecosystem, including Microsoft Purview, Microsoft 365 Government G5, and related security and compliance tools to better protect sensitive information and prepare for AI adoption.

Microsoft Power BI, through Microsoft Purview, helped Kern County implement data loss prevention, information protection, and eDiscovery to classify and govern data more consistently. The county classified more than 13 million files, generated 3,000+ DLP alerts in a single month, completed 8,500+ eDiscovery searches, and saved about $1 million in risk and non-compliance mitigation, while improving audit readiness and reducing oversharing risk.
