Case Study: M-KOPA Solar achieves real-time sales visibility and operational efficiency with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the M-KOPA Solar Case Study

Kenyan company transforms lives, making solar power affordable using innovative tech

M-KOPA Solar, a Nairobi-based pay-as-you-go solar finance company serving rural Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, faced the challenge of coordinating and training a dispersed sales force of thousands and turning scattered field data into actionable management insight. To address this, M-KOPA adopted Microsoft Kaizala as part of its Office 365 toolkit (alongside Microsoft Teams) and integrated field data into Microsoft Power BI for centralized reporting and analysis.

By using Kaizala action cards, geotagged photo check-ins and automated data feeds into Microsoft Power BI dashboards, M-KOPA cut fraud-reporting time by 30–40 minutes per case, improved sales accountability, and gave managers near real-time visibility. The solution helped the company scale to more than 600,000 customers, deliver an estimated 75 million hours of clean energy, and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 780,000 metric tons.
