International world trade centre gains control of costly assets with cloud-based IoT

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the region’s largest purpose‑built events complex, needed a scalable way to track and manage more than 11,000 rentable audio, video, and lighting assets across 1.3 million sq. ft., 21 halls and 500+ annual events. To avoid the time and cost of on‑premises infrastructure, DWTC partnered with KPIT Technologies and selected Azure IoT services together with Microsoft Power BI to connect on‑premises sensors, gateways, iBeacon tags and its Oracle ERP for real‑time visibility.

KPIT implemented a cloud solution using Azure IoT Hub, Stream Analytics, Cosmos DB, SQL Database and Microsoft Power BI to automate allocation, track equipment during events, send alerts for unauthorized movement, and visualize asset distribution with heat maps. The result: end‑to‑end automation for 11,000+ items, elimination of manual serial‑number entry, more accurate invoicing, faster resource reallocation and improved inventory planning—giving DWTC real‑time control of costly assets and a platform for future smart initiatives with Microsoft Power BI.
