Case Study: Centrica scales digital transformation with Microsoft Power Platform and Power BI

International energy services & solutions company maximises the returns from citizen development

Centrica, a UK energy services company, wanted to become a more digital business and empower employee-led innovation, but its early app-building approach was limited by reliance on Microsoft SharePoint as a data source and by scaling constraints. With Microsoft Power BI and the broader Microsoft Power Platform, Centrica sought a more futureproof way to support citizen developers and enterprise-wide use cases.

Microsoft implemented Microsoft Dataverse alongside Power Apps, Power Automate, Teams, and Power BI to help Centrica scale app development, integrate data from systems like SAP, and move legacy solutions out of data centres. The result was growth from about 300 apps to more than 1,000 across the estate, faster delivery of business apps like the Flex First desk-booking tool and finance automation apps, and significant time savings, better process control, and reduced costs versus buying or building custom solutions from scratch.
