Case Study: Zurich North America accelerates analytics and democratizes data with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Zurich Case Study

Insurance provider Zurich North America migrates from legacy BI tools to standardize on Power BI

Zurich, part of Zurich Insurance Group, faced widespread data silos and a legacy BI platform that left business analysts spending roughly 80% of their time gathering and extracting data instead of analyzing it. To standardize reporting and empower nontechnical users, Zurich chose Microsoft Power BI (supported by Microsoft Azure services) as its enterprise BI and visualization solution.

Zurich migrated 75 enterprise applications to Microsoft Power BI and built an Azure-based data architecture (Data Factory, Data Lake, Databricks, Azure SQL, and Azure AD) to enable self-service analytics and role-based dashboards for underwriting, finance, and claims. The Microsoft Power BI rollout flipped analysts’ time allocation—now about 80% on analysis—has 89% of Power BI workspaces managed by business users, onboarded 400+ users in four months, improved dataset sizes and refresh limits with Power BI Premium, and is delivering faster distribution and expected cost savings.
