A Microsoft Power BI Case Study
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), a global NGO working across more than 6,000 health facilities in 14 countries, needed timely, accurate program data to make life-and-death decisions, meet diverse donor reporting requirements, and improve treatment outcomes for children and mothers. After relying on Excel and standard reports from SQL Server Reporting Services, EGPAF turned to Microsoft Power BI (alongside Datazen and SQL Server tools) to give non-technical staff simple, visual access to the organization’s data.
Using Microsoft Power BI and Datazen, EGPAF rolled out self-service dashboards, interactive reports, and offline mobile reports so staff in the field can run analyses without IT support; previously about 350 people used centralized SSRS reports, and now hundreds more across EGPAF’s 1,400 employees can explore data independently. The new tools improved data quality (staff spot and correct errors), sped decision-making, strengthened donor communication, and expanded the number of staff using data to drive program action—helping EGPAF advance its mission of preventing pediatric HIV and supporting the nearly 23 million women it has served.
