Hitachi Vantara IT PMO transforms with cloud-based project management solution

Hitachi Vantara, a Hitachi subsidiary with 7,000+ employees operating in 100+ countries, faced fragmented project-management tools that caused nonstandard processes, lost productivity, and poor visibility into resource capacity, status reporting, and demand management. To unify reporting and streamline project portfolio management, the IT PMO replaced three siloed systems with Microsoft Project Online and implemented analytics and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI.

The Microsoft Power BI–enabled deployment (accelerated with Wicresoft’s Project KickStart) provided templatized projects, automated timesheets, standardized Power BI reports, and improved forecasting and capacity planning. After six months Hitachi Vantara realized 7,200 annual productivity hours (about 2,400 from timesheet savings), more than $500,000 in projected annual cost avoidance (33% from reduced timesheet entry, 50% from project status updates), and 10% of productivity gains attributed to automated capacity reporting via Microsoft Power BI.
