A Microsoft Power BI Case Study
HIAS, an international nonprofit serving refugees, faced legacy technology that produced incomplete and inconsistent beneficiary data, insecure records, and slow reporting that hampered field staff. To modernize case management and reporting, HIAS deployed Microsoft technologies — notably Dynamics 365 Customer Service as a cloud-based CMS, Microsoft 365 and Power Automate for workflows, and Microsoft Power BI for analytics and reporting.
By implementing the Dynamics 365 CMS with Power Automate and Microsoft Power BI, HIAS cut new client intake time by 80% and reduced time to locate and review existing cases by 40%; Kenya staff now handle 1,000–1,400 clients monthly and the organization had reached 1.12 million forcibly displaced people as of October 2020. Microsoft Power BI shortened donor reporting from about a week to an hour, improved security and data uniformity, saved hundreds of staff hours, and freed budget by minimizing custom development so HIAS can deliver faster, safer services.
