Case Study: National Information Technology Agency achieves faster collaboration, cost savings, and improved public service delivery with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the National Information Technology Agency Case Study

Ghana’s National IT Agency ushers in a digitally enabled future

The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) of Ghana faced paper-based processes, fragmented systems, weak decision tools, and security gaps that hampered government service delivery. To modernize operations, NITA worked with Microsoft and local partner eSolutions to deploy a Smart Workplace built on Microsoft 365 technologies, explicitly leveraging Microsoft Power BI alongside Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Office tools to improve collaboration, analytics, and information security.

The vendor solution—Smart Workplace using Microsoft Power BI and the Microsoft 365 stack—was piloted across ministries and education institutions and rolled out rapidly during COVID-19 to enable remote work and online education. Initial licensing covered 10,000 public servants, 5,500 educational staff and 600,000 students, with the final scope targeting more than 50,000 public servants and 40,000 educational faculties serving 840,000 students; the Ghana Health Service signed up 4,000 users in April–June 2020. Microsoft Power BI-powered business intelligence, secure email, document management and Teams collaboration cut paper use, sped access to information from days or weeks to minutes, boosted productivity, and improved transparency and service delivery.
