GE Aviation’s Digital Group streamlines tracking of aircraft parts, reduces inefficiencies with Azure Blockchain technologies

GE Healthcare’s GE Aviation Digital Group worked with Microsoft Power BI and Azure Blockchain technologies to address a major aviation challenge: tracking the full history of aircraft parts. Because parts traceability was still heavily paper-based, the company faced inefficiencies, risk of error, and costly situations where otherwise usable parts could not be certified for use.

Microsoft implemented a blockchain-based solution using Azure Blockchain Service, Blockchain Data Manager, Azure Logic Apps, and Power BI to create a shared, real-time view of parts genealogy and status. The result was faster traceability, better collaboration with partners, and significant financial impact, including helping MTU Maintenance release more than $10 million in unsettled cash and reducing the months-to-years process of manual documentation to real-time scanning and reporting.
