A Microsoft Power BI Case Study
PWN, the Dutch water utility that supplies 106 billion liters of drinking water to 1.5 million people in North Holland, faced mounting climate risks (dune health, drought-driven salinity) and fragmented data across its SAP systems and IoT sensors. To consolidate data and gain actionable insights, PWN migrated its SAP estate and IoT data to Microsoft Azure and adopted Microsoft Power BI for reporting and visualization.
Working with Microsoft and partners, PWN built a unified data-insights platform on Azure—moving SAP IS‑U, CRM, and IoT asset management into the cloud—and uses Microsoft Power BI dashboards to empower analysts, monitor compliance, and drive predictive maintenance. The move delivered measurable benefits: substantial cost savings, easier extraction and visualization of data to optimally manage roughly €3 billion in assets, an organization-wide Power BI compliance dashboard for faster remediation, quicker spin‑up of test environments for innovation, and improved ability to detect leaks and predict climate impacts.
