From patchwork to seamless: how digital transformation accelerates WE's global impact

WE, the international nonprofit that empowers youth and schools, was struggling to scale after growing from 20 to 1,200 employees while relying on a patchwork of more than 30 legacy systems that hid financial and people insights. To create a single version of the truth and better support staff and donors, WE partnered with Microsoft Power BI and deployed Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Power BI, and Skype for Business to modernize finance, reporting and communications.

Microsoft Power BI’s solution consolidated live financial and program data through Dynamics 365, surfaced interactive Power BI dashboards for donor reporting and employee retention, and used Skype for Business to cut travel and communications costs. The results: granular profitability and annual-planning models that guide investment decisions, real‑time turnover dashboards that let HR target retention efforts, faster partner reporting, and communications savings (including a 20–30% reduction in employee cell-phone bills across ~500 travelers and a sharp drop in videoconferencing support tickets).
