Florida State University reimagines student learning with Microsoft Teams

Florida State University faced the challenge of reimagining classroom engagement for digital-native Generation Z students and rapidly adapting to remote learning when the pandemic hit. Through its Campus Reimagined initiative, FSU partnered with Microsoft Power BI and the broader Microsoft suite — including Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Power Apps, and Power Automate — to move from a custom app prototype to a sustainable, scalable digital learning environment that personalized student experiences and encouraged active participation.

FSU implemented Microsoft Teams as the classroom hub, surfaced low‑code custom tools with Power Apps, automated workflows with Power Automate, and used Microsoft Power BI to drive data‑informed personalization; instructors recorded more than 100 six‑minute on‑demand lectures, used real‑time polling and voting, and provided tailored weekly recommendations. The result was minimal disruption during the pandemic, high student engagement (many students rated the course an all‑time favorite), and a repeatable, scalable model FSU is expanding using Microsoft Power BI and the Power Platform to further personalize learning.
