Cloud9, a competitive esports organization fielding 14 teams, faced an overwhelming volume of game and positional data and relied on manual spreadsheets and limited human hours to scout opponents and prepare drafts. To tackle this, Cloud9 partnered with Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Azure services (including Azure Container Instances and Azure Database for PostgreSQL) to bring scalable cloud computing and advanced analytics to its data-science efforts.

Using Azure to run a Game Insights Platform and Microsoft Power BI for self-serve dashboards and visualization, Cloud9 automated video analysis, combined multiple data sources, and delivered real-time insights to players, coaches, and executives. The solution cut manual work, put statistics at users’ fingertips, and helped drive performance—Cloud9 posted a Spring 2020 winning percentage of 92.9% and had all five starters named to the league’s All‑Pro roster—while remaining ready to scale globally.
