Ernst & Young processes emergency loans for small business using Microsoft Power Platform

Ernst & Young faced a fast-moving challenge after the CARES Act created the Paycheck Protection Program: evolving forgiveness rules, huge volumes of applications, and a requirement to minimize EY’s infrastructure and operational footprint. To meet banks’ demand for a quick, secure solution, EY turned to Microsoft Power BI and the broader Microsoft Power Platform—using Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI—to prototype and pitch a low-code loan-forgiveness workflow and borrower portal.

Using Microsoft Power BI and the Power Platform, EY delivered a modular solution (Power Apps portals for borrowers, a model‑driven lender app, Dataverse storage, Power Automate workflows, Azure services, and DocuSign/SBA connectors) that moved from prototype to production in 12 weeks. The system passed InfoSec reviews, produced real-time Power BI dashboards for banks, won multiple regional bank contracts, and processed over 50,000 loans totaling more than $10 billion, demonstrating measurable speed, scale, and security improvements thanks to Microsoft Power BI.
