ENGIE brings AI to renewable energy platform, helps decarbonize energy production with Azure

ENGIE Digital, the digital arm of global energy provider ENGIE, needed to modernize its Darwin operational platform to process massive IoT streams from thousands of wind, solar, biogas, and hydro assets. Facing an aging SCADA system that lacked scale, resilience, and cost-efficiency, ENGIE Digital turned to Microsoft Power BI and other Microsoft technologies—including Azure Time Series Insights and Azure IoT Edge—to deliver scalable, AI-driven analytics and real-time dashboarding.

Working with Microsoft Power BI alongside Azure services, ENGIE Digital rearchitected Darwin to ingest and retrieve billions of IoT data points, run ML-enhanced forecasts and anomaly detection, and use a warm analytics storage model to cut costs. The modernized platform supports hundreds of sites worldwide, reduces unexpected plant disruptions, increases energy production and revenue, and maximizes data storage capacity while lowering total cost of ownership.
