Case Study: UAARE (Unidades de Apoio ao Alto Rendimento na Escola) achieves data-driven academic and athletic success with Microsoft Power BI

Educational program empowers student athletes with personalized learning and collaborative technology

UAARE (Unidades de Apoio ao Alto Rendimento na Escola) supports more than 700 student athletes in Portugal who must balance demanding academic and sports schedules. To scale its hybrid, student‑centric program and coordinate tutors, trainers and schools, UAARE partnered with Microsoft Power BI and other Microsoft tools (Microsoft Teams, OneNote, Stream and Surface) to provide a digital learning environment and systematic agendas.

Using Microsoft Power BI for the Data UAARE dashboard and Smart Calendar, plus Teams, Forms and Surface devices for collaboration and remote learning, UAARE introduced data‑driven scheduling, personalized learning plans and ongoing teacher professional development. The Microsoft Power BI–enabled solution helped UAARE maintain a 97% academic success rate (2019–20), achieve 272 national championship medals and 64 World/European titles, keep dropout to 0.43%, and give coordinators actionable insights into workload, performance and needed interventions.
