Case Study: St. Lucie Public Schools achieves higher graduation rates and reduced suspensions with Microsoft Power BI

Education analytics provides demonstrable success, improves learning outcomes

St. Lucie Public Schools, a large K–12 district in Florida, faced chronic low graduation rates and an “information-rich” but siloed data environment that made it hard to drill down to individual students and act quickly. To create actionable insights, the district worked with Microsoft Power BI (alongside Azure, Cortana Intelligence Suite, and SQL Server) to centralize data and support what they call “relentless progress monitoring” across schools, staff, and students.

Using Microsoft Power BI to deliver visual, timely dashboards and analytics, the district shifted from slow, fragmented reporting to daily/weekly interventions. Results include a jump in statewide graduation-rank position from 45th to 32nd to 22nd over three years (leading improvement metrics among large districts), a 40% reduction in suspensions, algebra enrollment growing from ~600 to over 1,000 with pass rates rising from 81% to 84%, and much faster insight delivery (an initial visual app built in two weeks), enabling more equitable scheduling and targeted interventions.
