Danish pump manufacturer develops sustainable water solutions with unified data governance from Azure Purview

Grundfos, a Danish pump manufacturer tackling global water and climate challenges, faced difficulty discovering and governing growing petabytes of IoT and hybrid data across cloud and on‑premises sources. To address slow, manual cataloging and poor data discoverability, Grundfos worked with Microsoft Power BI and other Azure services—notably adopting Azure Purview in private preview alongside Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, and SQL Server—to unify governance and make data accessible for analytics and decision‑making.

The vendor implemented Azure Purview Data Map and Data Catalog integrated with Azure Synapse and Microsoft Power BI to automate scanning, classification, lineage, and search across hybrid estates. As a result, Grundfos expects to classify roughly 70% of its Azure data estate (slightly less for on‑premises/SAP), dramatically reduce manual curation, free resources that would otherwise require up to five times more staff, speed data cataloging, and strengthen GDPR compliance—enabling faster, broader use of data for new business insights.
