Case Study: Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) achieves faster, actionable SAP reporting and analytics with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) Case Study

Dairy farmers use SAP on Azure to milk value from enterprise resource planning

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a Kansas City–based cooperative serving 14,500 farmer members, needed to modernize its sprawling IT estate, consolidate 18 hosted datacenters, and reduce rising SAP ERP operating costs while improving time to value. To enable modern reporting and analytics as part of that transformation, DFA adopted Microsoft Power BI alongside an SAP-on-Azure migration and related Azure services.

Working with partner Khoj Information Technology, DFA moved SAP to Azure, implemented Azure Data Lake Store and fast private connectivity via ExpressRoute, and rolled out Microsoft Power BI for enterprise reporting. The migration improved key workload performance, simplified post‑acquisition integration, and enabled scalable processing for peak monthly payroll runs—cutting IT costs by 30%, delivering a 16‑month payback and a 117% internal rate of return, supporting 6,800 named users, and giving remote staff full Power BI access.
