Cloud-based healthcare app helps physicians identify and manage patients with heart-valve disease

Edwards Lifesciences, a global medical‑technology company, needed a secure, scalable way to help physicians identify and manage patients with aortic stenosis while protecting protected health information and meeting HIPAA requirements. For the CardioCare program the company selected cloud services including Microsoft Power BI alongside Azure to deliver a HIPAA‑compliant, low‑TCO platform that could scale and isolate hospital databases.

Using Azure App Service and Azure SQL Database with Microsoft Power BI for extraction and visualization, Edwards Lifesciences built a web app that automatically compares echocardiogram measurements to diagnostic criteria, alerts care coordinators, and streamlines referrals. The solution reduced infrastructure management effort, earned HITRUST certification, and has processed more than 150,000 echocardiograms to date—helping clinicians identify and treat more patients sooner and improve outcomes.
