Chilean nonprofit aids children living on the streets of Santiago using Microsoft Power Apps

Fundación Don Bosco, a Chilean nonprofit that cares for children living on the streets of Santiago, struggled to locate highly transient youth using paper notes, hand-drawn maps, and staff memory. To solve this, they turned to Microsoft Power BI and other Microsoft tools—notably Microsoft Power Apps and Office 365—to build a geo-referenced "Street Circuit Registration" app that captures GPS-tagged observations of where children gather and move.

Using Microsoft Power BI to visualize patterns and Microsoft Power Apps to collect field data, the foundation created digital maps that let case workers find youth faster and plan safer, targeted outreach. The app produced more than 500 geo-referenced observations, cut information lookup from as long as 40 minutes to about 20 seconds, and helped the team increase the number of homeless children in their care by 10%, while Azure and Office 365 safeguards protect sensitive data.
