Case Study: Carlsberg Group achieves enhanced security and reduced costs with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Carlsberg Group Case Study

Carlsberg Group - Customer Case Study

Carlsberg Group, the world’s fourth‑largest brewer with about 41,000 employees and 140+ beer brands, faced a hard deadline when its datacenter lease had 12 months left and it needed to modernize critical SAP, ERP and production systems with only one weekend available for a full cutover. Working with Accenture and Microsoft technologies, Carlsberg moved to Azure and built a new Carlsberg Analytics Platform using Azure services and Microsoft Power BI for analytics to consolidate legacy UNIX/DB2 and custom systems and reduce operational risk.

The vendor solution replatformed legacy workloads to Windows Server and SQL Server, used Azure Site Recovery, ExpressRoute, HANA Large Instances, and Azure analytics services (Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Databricks, SQL Data Warehouse) while integrating Microsoft Power BI for reporting. The migration moved roughly 1,600 TB of data, now runs ~700 Azure VMs (down from 1,070 on‑premises to ~150 retained locally), delivered higher availability and disaster recovery, lowered costs and security risk, and enabled faster, real‑time insights for business users. Microsoft Power BI is a core part of the analytics stack that helped Carlsberg turn the cloud migration into a platform for innovation.
