BookBeat, a digital subscription service from Bonnier Books, needed a flexible, analytics-driven platform to compete in the rapidly changing audiobook and e-book market and to deliver personalized recommendations. To do this it turned to Microsoft technologies — notably Microsoft Power BI for visualization along with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Analytics, Azure Databricks, and Azure SQL Data Warehouse — to capture customer behavior, usage metrics, and campaign data without large upfront infrastructure commitments.

Using Microsoft Power BI and the broader Azure stack, BookBeat centralized data ingestion, advanced analytics, and BI to power personalized recommendations, measure thousands of marketing campaigns, and deploy frequent updates via continuous integration. The result was sustained rapid growth — 100 percent year-over-year — while avoiding significant headcount increases (BookBeat estimates it would have needed about 10 more editors without Azure) and eliminating the need for staff to manage infrastructure.
