Case Study: City of Musson achieves time savings and improved water-billing accuracy with Microsoft Power BI

Belgian municipality saves time and enhances service to citizens through innovative use of the cloud

The City of Musson faced an inefficient, manual process for collecting water meter data and invoicing about 2,000 households. Working with local partner Opinum, the municipality built an Azure-based solution and used Microsoft Power BI for analytics and reporting to modernize readings and billing.

Opinum deployed roughly 2,000 smart meters, Windows tablets for drive-by readings, and an Azure data-management pipeline that feeds the invoicing system and Microsoft Power BI dashboards for monitoring. The City of Musson now reads meters weekly instead of monthly, has fewer billing errors, faster leak detection, measurable time and cost savings, and expects full payback within a year — all enabled by Microsoft Power BI and the Azure-based implementation.
