Bank of Khyber leverages Microsoft SQL Enterprise in core banking

Bank of Khyber, a large Pakistani commercial bank with more than 190 branches, needed to modernize a legacy core banking system that lacked centralized storage and effective collaboration tools. Seeking a cost‑effective, resilient platform, BOK worked with Microsoft Power BI and other Microsoft technologies (including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, Microsoft 365 and Power Apps) to evaluate and implement a SQL‑based core banking solution and a cloud‑ready digital foundation.

With support from Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Data & AI specialists, BOK deployed Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise on Azure, adopted Microsoft 365 and Power Apps, and is planning direct Power BI integration for business reporting. The single‑vendor approach improved disaster recovery and remote working (via Teams), maintained business continuity during COVID‑19, and delivered measurable savings—CapEx down about 15–20% and OpEx down about 30%—while positioning the bank for future cloud migration and real‑time reporting.
