Alder Hey Children’s Hospital - Customer Case Study

Alder Hey Children's Hospital, one of Europe’s largest and busiest pediatric hospitals, wanted to advance healthcare through AI by unlocking the value of its large volumes of clinical and operational data. The organization faced the challenge of turning that data into actionable forecasts for patient demand and bed-space utilization, and partnered with Microsoft Power BI (alongside Azure Machine Learning, IoT and other Microsoft AI solutions) to develop predictive capabilities.

Using Microsoft Power BI, Alder Hey built an AI-driven algorithm that models patient severity and predicts daily admissions and bed-space needs in a dynamic, forward-looking way. The Microsoft Power BI–enabled solution improved the hospital’s forecasting and operational planning, supporting better resource allocation and governance around AI while forming a scalable foundation for further AI projects.
