The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) needed to modernize its Rural Payments Agency financial operations before support for its aging Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 system ended. With hundreds of thousands of annual payments to farmers and landowners, Defra faced a tight deadline, complex reporting requirements, and the need to move to a more secure, cloud-based platform with minimal disruption.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, along with Power BI and Power Apps, was implemented to automate claim entry, streamline core finance processes, and provide real-time reporting. Microsoft Dynamics 365 helped Defra complete the migration on schedule and process 111,000 payments totaling nearly £2.5 billion in the first three months after go-live, while also reducing support calls, operating costs, and major incidents.
