Rainforest Alliance is a global nonprofit that certifies sustainable farming to protect forests and connect farmers to conscientious consumers. The organization needed a scalable, cost‑effective way to track complex supply chains from smallholder farms in places like Côte d’Ivoire to chocolate manufacturers, manage large volumes of real‑time data, and connect staff across multiple offices to support its certification system.
Rainforest Alliance moved its traceability platform and data warehouse to the Microsoft Cloud—using Azure (including Azure SQL), Dynamics 365 (CRM) and collaboration tools such as Yammer and Office 365—to integrate supply‑chain touchpoints, run real‑time tracking and handle billing and outreach. The cloud solution reduced IT costs, increased operational efficiency, enabled end‑to‑end tracking of cocoa from farm to bar, and helped ensure certified, sustainably produced products while supporting higher incomes and training for farmers.
