The Construction Industry Development Board (cidb) is South Africa’s statutory regulator for the public-sector construction industry, overseeing contractor registration, skills development and procurement across nine provinces. Faced with more than 100,000 registered contractors, slow manual processes, long queues, downtime and poor provincial integration, cidb launched a digital transformation to improve turnaround times, user satisfaction and operational efficiency.

cidb deployed Microsoft solutions—Dynamics 365, Office 365/SharePoint and Azure—with partner Mint Group to modernize registration, secure data, cut server costs and enable online, faster and more collaborative services. Innovations include integrated provincial systems, SharePoint-driven online registration and Azure-powered queue management with facial recognition, resulting in reduced paperwork, higher staff productivity, faster contractor service and improved connectivity with national supplier databases.
