Seattle Seahawks play to win with smart data and intelligent insights

The Seattle Seahawks partnered with Microsoft to tackle a common elite-sports challenge: turning complex player data into actionable insights to prevent injury, speed rehabilitation, and optimize performance — exemplified by cornerback DeShawn Shead’s recovery from a torn ACL and meniscus. The team needed a way to track player workload and wellness in near real time so coaches and medical staff could make informed, individualized decisions.

Together they built the Sports Performance Platform on Azure, combining GPS sensors, Power BI analytics, Dynamics capabilities, and Surface devices for player-facing profiles and facial-recognized access. The result is tailored training and rehab plans, higher player engagement with their own metrics, faster return-to-play for injured athletes, and a more competitive, data-driven approach across the organization.
