A Microsoft Dynamics 365 Case Study
Scientists in School is a Canadian nonprofit that brings hands‑on STEM workshops to elementary classrooms—serving more than 24,000 K–8 classrooms and inspiring roughly 640,000 children a year. Rapid demand, about 400 geographically dispersed presenter volunteers, 80+ workshop topics, and manual booking and payment processes (paper piles and Excel) made scheduling, communication, and variable payment rules hard to manage—especially without an internal IT team.
The charity implemented Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online tightly integrated with Dynamics GP, trained staff via Skype for Business, and launched a presenter portal where leaders can view schedules, claim expenses, get directions via Bing Maps, and use automated approvals. The solution simplified complex payment schedules, reduced reliance on consultants, improved presenter communication and reimbursement, and helped Scientists in School manage growth and retain top presenters so it can deepen and broaden its impact.
