Sandvik Coromant, part of the Sandvik Group and founded in Sweden in 1862, is a global leader in machining tools and tooling systems. Facing the challenge that decades of expert knowledge lived only in employees’ heads and that technical experts couldn’t be everywhere, the company set out to digitize that expertise and integrate people, machines, tools, materials and orders so customers could optimize shop‑floor efficiency and avoid costly downtime.
Working with Microsoft, Sandvik Coromant built a predictive analytics solution using Azure IoT, Cortana Intelligence and Dynamics 365 for Field Service that collects high‑frequency data from sensorized tools and shop‑floor systems for real‑time machine‑learning analysis. The system adds tool‑level intelligence, enables predictive maintenance and better scheduling, and gives customers faster, data‑driven decisions that reduce downtime, improve continuous production flow and support more profitable resource planning.
