New York City Department of Education rises to the challenge with Microsoft Azure

The New York City Department of Education faced an urgent challenge during the pandemic: it had to rapidly expand remote learning for more than 1.2 million students while handling massive volumes of data, limited feedback on student engagement, and growing demands on its IT infrastructure. Working with Microsoft Dynamics 365, the district sought a cloud-based platform to support remote and hybrid education, data analysis, and secure scale.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 helped the district build a modern data backbone using Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake, Microsoft Purview, and Power BI. The solution unified data from hundreds of applications and enabled dashboards for more than 100,000 teachers and administrators, giving the district a single source of truth for attendance, device distribution, and student engagement. The result was faster decision-making, better support for underserved students, and measurable insight across remote, in-person, and hybrid learning models.
