Louisiana city implements smart city technology to create engagement transparency efficiency

The City of Lafayette, Louisiana, a culturally rich and tech-forward municipality, wanted to become a smart city by improving citizen engagement, transparency, and operational efficiency. Facing departmental silos and the need for both quick citizen-facing wins and a long-term platform, the city worked with partner KPMG Adoxio to develop a strategic roadmap and chose a technology approach that could scale across many government functions.

Lafayette implemented the Velocity 365 solution built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Azure, integrated with tools like SharePoint, Power BI, and its telephony system, and began rolling out a 311 non-emergency call center as the first major deliverable. Early results include faster, more transparent citizen service, streamlined internal workflows, and measurable efficiency gains, with a roadmap for about ten additional smart-city projects (transportation sensors, storm management, etc.) to expand impact over time.
