How Peterson Disrupts the Forestry Industry with IOT

Peterson, an Astec Industries company that designs high‑end forestry equipment, faced a legacy challenge: customers and technicians couldn’t easily monitor or troubleshoot machines in the field, setups and service were time‑consuming and manual, and internal systems (including an Access database and VPN‑bound servers) limited off‑site access and scalability. As Peterson moved to digitally transform, it needed a secure, cloud‑based solution to enable remote monitoring, predictive insights, and better cross‑department integration.

Working with partner Mazik Global, Peterson deployed Azure Cloud Services, Azure IoT solution accelerators and Dynamics 365 to launch the “Peterson+” program. IoT‑enabled machines now provide real‑time telemetry and predictive alerts, allow remote code and safety updates, and surface parts and service needs before failures occur; Dynamics 365 moved CRM/ERP to the cloud for secure off‑site access. The result: faster issue resolution, fewer factory service visits, higher customer satisfaction, richer product data for continuous improvement, and positive market feedback as Peterson scales its cloud and IoT capabilities.
