Hamilton City Council - Customer Case Study

Hamilton City Council, which manages services for more than 150,000 residents across 25 business units in New Zealand, needed to replace an onshore private cloud model that charged for 24/7 capacity. CIO Eion Hall pursued a consumption-based, hybrid public cloud to cut costs, remove excess capacity, and future-proof the Council’s heavy investment in Microsoft technologies, while requiring a partner able to support a mixed-technology environment.

The Council chose Fujitsu (with Koorb/UXC for Dynamics AX) and migrated to a staged hybrid solution using Microsoft Azure and Azure Pack with System Center, moving infrastructure out of the previous data centre and migrating AX to Azure. The change delivered immediate benefits—about NZD 30,000 monthly savings, the ability to scale down 30–40% during low-demand periods, improved resilience and compliance, and freed IT staff to focus on value-added projects—earning Fujitsu Microsoft’s Enterprise Cloud Partner of the Year for the solution.
