Co-op Group consolidates architecture with Azure Stack HCI to save £400,000 a year on power

Co-op, the UK retail group behind more than 2,500 stores and other services, was struggling with a highly complex, mixed IT environment spread across two datacenters. The company needed a simpler, more manageable hybrid infrastructure that could support older applications, latency-sensitive workloads, and its cloud-first strategy, and worked with Microsoft Dynamics 365 alongside Microsoft Azure technologies to modernize its estate.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 helped Co-op implement Azure Stack HCI and related Azure services to consolidate its architecture and extend cloud capabilities on-premises. The result was a 16-rack datacenter footprint reduced to 4 racks, about a 30% performance improvement, and annual power-and-cooling savings of roughly £400,000, while also improving flexibility, resilience, and operational efficiency.
