Automotive paint specialist Wörwag builds its knowledge database in Microsoft Azure

Wörwag Lack- und Farbenfabrik is a German specialist in paint for plastic automotive parts that needed to shorten costly, time‑consuming lab cycles while meeting exacting OEM quality and color requirements. With thousands of Excel sheets of tacit knowledge and no off‑the‑shelf platform for its niche use case, the company wanted a global, cloud‑hosted way to structure formula data, support analysis, and avoid managing infrastructure.

Wörwag built a custom application in Microsoft Azure (using DevTest Labs, Azure SQL, App Services and Data Factory, and Azure Resource Manager) and integrated it with color measurement devices, a lab painting robot, and Dynamics 365. The result is a standardized, searchable formulas database that speeds research, reduces redundant testing, and improves production quality; planned Azure Machine Learning will further cut required test runs (for example from 100 to 50), boosting efficiency and securing a long‑term competitive edge.
