Case Study: Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank achieves disaster resilience and faster relief delivery with Microsoft Dynamics 365

A Microsoft Dynamics 365 Case Study

Preview of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank Case Study

After a disaster this nonprofit is more prepared than ever through the cloud

Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, a Louisiana nonprofit serving 11 parishes through 115 partner agencies, was devastated in the August 2016 flood that submerged its offices, warehouses, delivery trucks and all on‑premises IT infrastructure. The disaster destroyed documents, inventory records, and local servers, crippling the food bank’s ability to coordinate relief at a time of urgent need.

With a Microsoft Philanthropies Azure grant and cloud services including Office 365 and Dynamics, the food bank was back online within two days and now uses a custom Dynamics app and cloud storage to collect real‑time data from the field, adjust distributions on the fly, and track shipments. The move cut technology costs to less than a third of previous spending (freeing funds for an estimated 112,000 more meals), improved efficiency, and made the organization far more resilient and responsive to future disasters.
