Preview of the YomiDr. Case Study

Yomiuri Shimbun’s updated yomiDr. site handles 30 million page views a month and can be recovered in one hour

YomiDr., the medical information website of Yomiuri Shimbun Tokyo Headquarters in Japan, faced declining traffic, outdated infrastructure, and the need for stronger disaster recovery, security, and scalability. The site had to stay available during emergencies, when access spikes sharply, and YomiDr. wanted a system that could recover quickly if a server or facility was damaged. Microsoft Corporation helped address these challenges with Microsoft Azure and WordPress on Azure Virtual Machines via KUSANAGI for Microsoft Azure.

Microsoft Corporation implemented a new Azure-based WordPress environment that supports 30 million page views per month and enables remote recovery within one hour after an earthquake. The upgrade cut operating costs in half, reduced site management time by more than 84%, and improved performance enough to make page updates much faster. Microsoft Corporation’s solution also helped YomiDr. restore service far more quickly than expected and better handle sudden traffic surges.
