Yahoo! Improves Campaign Effectiveness, Boosts Ad Revenue with Big Data Solution

Yahoo, a major digital media company, wanted to provide its advertisers with more useful analytic data from its vast information stores and to improve the data processing performance of its Targeting, Analytics and Optimization (TAO) platform. To address this challenge, Yahoo partnered with Microsoft to implement a new business intelligence solution.

Microsoft's solution integrated Yahoo's existing Apache Hadoop framework with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services. This created the world’s largest SQL Server Analysis Services cube, which handles over 3.5 billion daily ad impressions. The results were improved ad campaign effectiveness, a significant increase in advertising spending, and the ability to load data and retrieve queries much faster than before.
