Willis Towers Watson achieves seamless scalability in the cloud

Willis Towers Watson, a major insurance consulting and technology provider, needed a more flexible way to run its reserving and pricing analytics as demand fluctuated and on-premises infrastructure became costly and underused. Using Microsoft Corporation’s Azure cloud services, including Azure SQL Database, the company sought a scalable alternative to more than 80 SQL Server instances running on-site.

Microsoft Corporation implemented a migration to Azure SQL Database and SQL Data Warehouse with Azure Database Migration Service, moving workloads with no downtime for users. The result was seamless scalability, faster deployment of jobs, and significant cost savings by paying only for consumed resources; the shift also expanded the client base Willis Towers Watson could serve, including smaller businesses in new markets.
