Vipps uses Microsoft Azure to scale and innovate its mobile app and transform how Norway pays

Vipps, Norway’s fast-growing mobile payment app used by more than 2.7 million people, needed a way to scale rapidly and keep innovating as demand surged. Working with Microsoft Corporation and Microsoft Azure, Vipps set out to transform its app from a monolithic on-premises system into a flexible, cloud-based platform that could support future growth and new payment services.

Microsoft Corporation helped Vipps rebuild on Azure using services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure API Management, Azure Notification Hubs, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Active Directory, Azure Container Service, and Power BI. The result was a highly scalable platform that supported faster innovation and new merchant and e-commerce offerings; Vipps reported that paid transactions grew more than 300% while peer-to-peer transactions increased 75%, helping the company expand while focusing less on operations and more on creating value.
