Case Study: Medical Teams International improves refugee health care with Microsoft Corporation Azure cloud services

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Medical Teams International Case Study

Using Microsoft cloud services to transform health care for more than 1 million South Sudanese refugees in Uganda

Medical Teams International, a nonprofit health care and humanitarian aid provider, faced the challenge of delivering care across 40 clinics serving more than 1 million refugees in Uganda while relying on 77 paper forms and slow, error-prone data collection. With Microsoft Corporation’s Azure cloud services, Medical Teams needed a scalable, secure way to digitize patient records, improve diagnosis, and respond faster to disease outbreaks.

Microsoft Corporation supported a mobile app and cloud-based health information system built on Azure, Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database, and related Microsoft tools to automate data capture and analysis. The results were significant: data errors dropped by 90%, doctors gained outbreak insights within days instead of months, and one malaria-related process improved from over 50% of cases without tests to below 5%, helping Medical Teams improve care and target resources more effectively.
