University looks to the cloud for greater security, lower costs, and stability during a natural disaster

Tokyo University of Technology needed a more secure, resilient, and cost-effective way to run its emergency news site and intranet portal after experiencing the challenges of maintaining a critical notification system on its main website. The university also needed a solution that could handle sudden traffic spikes during emergencies, simplify content updates for staff, and remain stable during natural disasters. It chose Microsoft Corporation’s Azure cloud platform, using Azure Virtual Machines with KUSANAGI for Microsoft Azure and WordPress.

Microsoft Corporation implemented Azure-based websites that improved availability, speed, and security for Tokyo University of Technology. The emergency site stayed stable even under surges of up to 10,000 page views per month, server resources could be scaled down when traffic was low to reduce costs, and site administration became easier and faster. For the intranet portal, switching to WordPress cut management time by one-third, while the Azure setup also enabled stronger, layered security controls.
