A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Uber boosts platform security with the Face API, part of Microsoft Cognitive Services

Uber needed a faster, low-friction way to strengthen driver identity verification on its ride-sharing platform, where thousands of partners sign in every hour. The company wanted to confirm that the driver behind the wheel matched the approved account photo without slowing people down, and it chose Microsoft Corporation’s Face API from Microsoft Cognitive Services to help solve the challenge.

Microsoft Corporation implemented the Face API so Uber could compare periodic driver selfies against stored photos in milliseconds, even under varying lighting, pose, and device conditions. Uber said the integration took about three weeks and saved months of development work, helping it scale the Real-Time ID Check to thousands of drivers and eventually toward 1 million global drivers while improving security and keeping the experience seamless.
