Case Study: International Rescue Committee achieves greater refugee training and support with Microsoft Corporation and Surface tablets

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the International Rescue Committee Case Study

The International Rescue Committee trains and supports more refugees than ever before with Surface tablets

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) needed to replace aging, outdated laptops and desktop computers that were limiting its ability to deliver job training, digital literacy, and resettlement support to refugees. Working with Microsoft Corporation, the nonprofit adopted Office 365 and Surface tablets to give staff and refugees more modern, secure, and portable tools for learning and outreach.

Microsoft Corporation implemented a donation of more than 700 Surface tablets, helping the IRC turn classrooms and field sessions into portable computer labs. The devices enabled refugees to search for jobs, create resumes and email accounts, complete online forms, and access training at their own pace, while staff could work more efficiently in the field. The result was greater independence for refugees, expanded training capacity, and stronger service delivery across the United States and abroad.
